VOTERS MOOD
William Agnew was a loyal Republican for about 35 years before he became what he calls a âfallen away Republicanâ in the early 2000s. It seemed the party went from one that valued self-reliance to one prioritizing the wealthy, he said. âIâm not a Democrat. I just have problems with the Republican Party,â said the retired 73-year-old accountant from San Marcos.
âThis gets complicated, but the Republican Party particularly kind of hides behind religion and on the other hand, basically violates everything Jesus taught,â who said he grew up Catholic. âIâm not as religious as that makes me sounds⦠but thatâs certainly true.â This year, his vote was motivated by President Donald Trump, he said. âI think heâs rotten to the core.â
