The Creative Brief

The San Antonio Business Journal wanted to create an environmental portrait for one of its honorees for its “Health Care Heroes” print edition. For more than 25 years, SABJ has honored these heroes on behalf of the business community they serve.

Without healthy employees and customers, businesses cannot survive, and SABJ wanted to showcase those in the healthcare industry who continually go above and beyond.

The Creative Process

  • Step 1.

    Concept Development

We wanted to create an iconic cover that was representative to keep our communities healthy.

  • Step 2.

    Pre-Production

Our production team looked at all the different honorees, and we selected Dr. Muhammad A. Mumtaz. The doctor who built the congenital heart surgery program at The Children's Hospital of San Antonio.

    Step 2.

    Pre-Production
  • Step 3.

    Production Day

We scouted several locations where Dr. Mumtaz spent most of his days, and we decided to shoot the photos in the operating room for maximum effect. We utilized one of the surgical lights used during procedures and a replica child's heart to show the gravity of his work. We decided to match our lighting to fit the same look and feel of the surgical light behind Dr. Mumtaz to light his face, and then we added an additional light to highlight the child's heart replica.

  • Step 4.

    The Results

We created a captivating cover that respectfully shows the gravity and weight of the profession, and that celebrated the contributions made by Dr. Mumtaz and others like him.
