Bloomberg News

A medical worker guides an elderly evacuee away from a plane during a Hurricane Katrina airlift photographed for Bloomberg News.

Photographed for Bloomberg News, these images show Hurricane Katrina evacuees sheltered at the Reliant Astrodome in Houston. A second photo shows an evacuee leaving a military transport plane. Volunteer Denise Erwin of Houston sleeps sitting up in a chair, a baby asleep in her arms, among the cots. About 18,000 evacuees were sheltered at the Astrodome.

In the airlift photo, a medical worker walks an elderly evacuee away from an Air National Guard transport plane. Behind them, emergency crews unload patients on stretchers.
