Video and photography
in one production
Mike Ramsey of the City of San Antonio Workforce Development Office answers a question in his “Building Futures” interview.
Most crews do one. We plan for both.
Many video companies offer photos on the side. Many photographers offer video on the side. We plan both into the same production, so you get a finished video and a full set of portraits from one crew, one schedule and one point of contact, without trading one for the other.
Our founder, Carlos Javier Sanchez, brings 25 years of documentary storytelling and photojournalism. Stills and video have always been part of the same job for him.
How it works on the day
Every job is different, so we plan it with you before the shoot. On some productions, we shoot the portraits while the video is rolling. On others, we switch between video and stills through the day. Either way, the schedule has room for both, and you know the plan before we arrive.
Your people only have to show up once. They meet our crew one time and get comfortable one time. One booking can also save the cost of a separate photo shoot.
Carlos is fun, dependable, and incredibly hard-working. His photojournalist background and video expertise are a massive advantage to our office. Carlos and his team put this skillset to work to deliver everything we wanted regardless of the deadline.

When you need it fast
For events, we can deliver your photos as soon as you need them after the shoot, and the video can turn around same day or in 24 hours. Same-day and next-day delivery carry a rush fee.
We delivered the City of San Antonio’s National Apprenticeship Day video the morning after the event. Tell us your deadline on the first call, and we plan back from it. Here’s what next-morning delivery takes.
How we price it
We quote video and photography together, as one project, on the first call. To get a sense of the range, see our video packages and photo prices.
Common questions
How soon do we get the photos?
Headshot galleries arrive the next business day, and retouched headshots the next business day after your selections. Portraits come within 5 business days of your selections, and event galleries within 72 hours.
Where can we use the photos?
Your organization can use the photos on its own channels, including your website, social media, press and print, with no time limit. Advertising and other extended uses are licensed separately.
How do we pay?
A 50% deposit reserves your date, and the balance is due at final delivery. Government and school clients may use a purchase order in place of a deposit.
Can you shoot both outside San Antonio?
Yes. Travel outside the San Antonio area is quoted separately, and when the story calls for it, we travel well beyond Texas.
How do you price video and photos together?
We quote them as one project on the first call. Video packages start at $6,000, or $4,500 for qualifying 501(c)(3) nonprofits. Headshots start at $350, environmental portraits at $950 and event photography at $350 per hour. One booking can also save the cost of a separate photo shoot.
How soon do we get the video?
A Spotlight video is delivered about a week after the shoot, a Signature Story in about two weeks and a Story Campaign in about three. Event video can turn around the same day or in 24 hours. Same-day delivery carries a 20% rush fee, and next-day delivery 10%.
How much time do you need from each person?
Plan on 45 minutes for each interview; most take about 30, which leaves time for short breaks. A headshot takes about 10 minutes in front of the camera. On some productions the portraits are shot while the video is rolling, so your people only show up once.
Does one release cover the video and the photos?
Before we film, each person signs a release that says how and where the video and photos may be used. It can be in English or Spanish, and we can read it aloud. The release, often your organization’s own form, governs how the video is used. See The people in your story.
Can we get short cuts and vertical versions from the same shoot?
Yes. The same day gives you the video, its short cutdowns and still photos from the same sessions. We plan every version before the shoot, from the full story for your website down to a vertical cut for social. Cutting a finished horizontal video down to vertical doesn’t always hold up.
Who has booked video and photos together?
NPower Texas put both to work in one booking: the alumni portraits were shot during the same productions as the video stories, like Charlie Wright’s. SAMMinistries clients who told their stories in its Journeys of Hope gala videos were also photographed for the nonprofit. The portraits and videos sit side by side on this page.
