LISC San Antonio
Overview and Impact Leaders videos
A man smiles as he accepts a box at a front door in the “LISC San Antonio Overview” video.
LISC San Antonio is the local office of Local Initiatives Support Corporation. It pairs grants, loans and equity investment with training to expand affordable housing and support small businesses. We produced two videos for the office: a five-minute organization overview and a three-minute awards video. The second honors the four San Antonio Impact Leaders LISC recognized at its awards luncheon.
In the overview, executive director Leilah Powell describes the mission as building “health, wealth, and power” for people who’ve been excluded or disadvantaged. LISC isn’t the direct service provider, she explains; it lets community-based nonprofits do what they do best. Kristin Davila of Merced Housing Texas describes the homeowner maintenance class LISC trained her team to run. Mark Carmona, the City’s chief housing officer, says rehab clients now must take it, and he calls LISC “a strong ally or partner.”
The honorees are Adrian Lopez, Donna C. Richardson, Levar Martin and Mary E. Garr, from Workforce Solutions Alamo, Frost Bank, NALCAB and Family Service. Each tells what drives the work, from being the first of seven siblings to go to college to a family bankruptcy in senior year. Mary takes the long view: “We’re talking about generational change.” If you honor people at a luncheon or need partners to understand your mission, these are two formats we’d suggest.
