For the Power of Preservation PROM in San Antonio, we made two award videos, each introducing an honoree. The first honors Lori Houston, a former San Antonio Assistant City Manager, who received the Vision Award. The second tells how Basila Frocks won the Outstanding Project Award.

Lori names the River Walk as her favorite place in the city, the first place she went when she visited. Her work on the Museum Reach Urban Segment of the San Antonio River Improvements Project started her love of historic preservation. Former Mayor Phil Hardberger remembers her being appointed, not long after she started at the city, to help him get that project done. After 23 years at the City, she sums it up in one line: “It’s because I believe in us.”

Basila Frocks began as a dress factory built by the Basila family, from Syria, during the Great Depression. It hired women from the West Side neighborhood as seamstresses, and it hosted weddings, quinceañeras, a nightclub, a restaurant and wrestling matches. The community fought off demolition and then a dollar store, and the nearly 100-year-old building became a small-business and community hub. If your awards night honors people and projects, this is the kind of video we make for it.
