Pollen Pants

“My parents instilled in me a love of nature,” Tamara Carroll says. The owner of TLC Bees in San Antonio explains how beekeeping became her business in this two-minute excerpt from Pollen Pants, our documentary about her.

When she heard a friend knew a beekeeper, she wondered about a hive tour, to see what being a beekeeper is all about. Her plan: “I’m just gonna be a hobbyist beekeeper.” Instead, “my business grew from one hive to 34 hives.”

Beekeeping is extremely hard work, she says: “It’s very hot, dirty, expensive, and requires a lot of heavy lifting.” A medium box full of honey can weigh 50 pounds, she explains, and the brood box, typically deeper, can weigh more. The full seven-minute documentary has the rest of Tamara’s story.
