Overview and about-us videos

From left, Michael Fugett, Zooey Nguyen, Brittany Holmes and Raymond Robinson Jr. appear in “IT Apprenticeship Programs.”

Partners, funders and new hires all want to know who you are and what you actually do. An overview video answers that in a few minutes, for your website, your pitches and your partner meetings. See the overviews we produced for LISC San Antonio and the City of San Antonio Home Rehab Program.

One video, many rooms

One overview video can serve many audiences. Students of Service (SOS), a San Antonio youth nonprofit, wanted one about-us video for four jobs: its gala, fundraising, recruiting students and engaging donors. It ends on a Support Our Work card with a QR code, and SOS has put it to work in all four.

The same shoots gave SOS five shorter videos, including an alumni story and a video on its Citizen Diplomats program.

Introduce a program or an office

We produced a five-minute overview for LISC San Antonio, the local office of Local Initiatives Support Corporation. It pairs grants, loans and equity investment with training to expand affordable housing and support small businesses.

For the City of San Antonio’s Neighborhood and Housing Services department, a one-minute video introduces the Home Rehab Program, and a companion video follows homeowner Ms. Herrera. For the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, a two-minute video introduces BizConnect San Antonio, its pilot program for entrepreneurs.

How long should it be?

It depends on where it plays. The videos on this page run from one minute, for the Home Rehab Program, to almost eight. Our overviews for LISC San Antonio and Students of Service each run about five minutes. A video played in a gala room usually runs 2 to 4 minutes. We settle the length, and any shorter versions, on the discovery call.

Common questions

Who should speak in an overview video?

The people who know you best. In the Students of Service video, founder Amir Samandi, a student and a Wells Fargo vice president make the case. In BizConnect San Antonio, small business owners in the program share what the classes and the grant did for them. Plan on about one minute of screen time per person, and no more than three people for a 2 to 3 minute video.

What does the Signature Story include?

One 3-minute flagship video plus 1 to 2 supporting videos for social and digital channels. The shoot is a full-day production with a three-person crew and a dedicated interviewer, with room for several people and locations. It includes two rounds of revisions, and delivery takes about two weeks after the shoot. Every package includes the Story Strategy discovery process, narrative editing, color grading, sound mixing and licensed music.

How long does the whole project take?

Plan back from the date you need it. Steffi holds pre-interviews at least a week before the shoot. A Spotlight is delivered about a week after the shoot and a Signature Story about two weeks. You review the edit in a private online review portal, and your notes shape the final version.

Can we get shorter versions for social or a pitch?

Yes, when they're planned at the start. A Signature Story includes 1 to 2 supporting videos for social and digital channels. Students of Service got five shorter videos from the same shoots as its about-us video, including one on its Citizen Diplomats program. Each extra cut adds editing time, and vertical versions are best planned before the shoot.

Can you photograph our team during the same shoot?

Yes. We plan video and photography into the same production: a finished video and a full set of portraits from one crew and one schedule. On some productions the portraits are shot while the video is rolling; on others the crew switches between video and stills through the day. Our video and photography page shows stills and video from one crew side by side, including BizConnect San Antonio.

Can we get a Spanish version of the overview?

Yes. One shoot can give you a Spanish version and an English version, planned at the start with Spanish on-screen text and graphics. Depending on the project, the Spanish comes from interviews recorded in Spanish or from a Spanish voice-over. A second language version adds editing time, and translation if you need it; see Spanish version or subtitles.

How many locations can we film in?

It depends on the package. A Spotlight is a half-day, single-camera shoot, and a Signature Story is a full day with room for several people and locations. Each move means packing up and lighting again, which uses shoot time. When the video needs a view from above, our team includes FAA Part 107 certified drone pilots.

Can the video include animation or motion graphics?

Yes. Motion graphics are part of our post-production, and longer animated sequences add design and editing time. For ideas that are easier to draw than to shoot, we also make animated explainer videos. They make a complex program, process or service simple to follow.
