Smart Energy Education Short version

SA Smart Water Resourcefulness Competition

Then-Mayor Ron Nirenberg describes the SA Tomorrow plan as “an innovative three-pronged planning effort to guide the city towards smart, sustainable growth.” This three-minute cut for DISCO Learning Media covers the SA Smart Water Resourcefulness Competition, where students in the Mayor’s K-12 Smart City Challenge took on water conservation.

Dr. Cliff Zintgraff of the San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology asks “how cool is it that a student could identify a local challenge” and be part of a team trying to solve it. He thinks students learn best “when their voice is being heard and when they’re able to engage hands-on in a topic.”

A student team describes its winning 2022 project: faucet aerators for low-income families. “You’re conserving water and thus paying less for your water bill,” one student says.

To Dr. Michael E. Webber, smart energy education is a chance to run energy and water “in a better way than we’ve done it in the past.” He thinks energy’s future will be cleaner, more affordable and more reliable. Then-Mayor Nirenberg tells students, “Always remember, a better tomorrow is ahead because of the work you do today.” The full eight-minute video is here too.
