SEE Your Future Career Day

SEE Your Future Career Day was a free STEM event hosted by KLRN, where students and families met people who work in energy and tried hands-on demos. We filmed this event video for DISCO Learning Media, a partner in the Smart Energy Education initiative.

A CPS Energy lineworker helps children try on safety gear. One table showed how to build a small voltage capacitor, and kids asked questions like “Why does that happen? How can you stop it?” One presenter thinks a career day like this would have sparked their interest in engineering “a little bit early on.” Another was excited to see a lot of little girls interested in circuit design, and some already knew about programming.

One speaker describes how the industry is changing, with more automation and a need for people who can run IT systems, work on robotics and fly drones. Another says the future starts with young people, and another made connections in the energy field and learned about an internship opportunity.
