Smart Energy Education
STEM event videos
A CPS Energy lineworker helps children try on safety gear in the “SEE Your Future Career Day” video.
Four videos here were produced for DISCO Learning Media, a partner in the Smart Energy Education initiative. Two are event recaps, and two cover a student competition, in a three-minute cut and a full eight-minute version. Juan Garcia, DISCO’s president, calls the collaboration “a wonderful experience.”
For World Water Day, high school students from across San Antonio came to the Tobin Center for a free screening of “Thirst for Power.” The documentary is about the link between electricity and water, and a student panel followed. Then-Mayor Ron Nirenberg appears, and CPS Energy’s Angela Rodriguez puts it simply: “when you save one, you save the other.” At SEE Your Future Career Day, a free STEM event hosted by KLRN, a CPS Energy lineworker helps children try on safety gear.
The SA Smart Water Resourcefulness Competition videos follow the Mayor’s K-12 Smart City Challenge, where students pitched ways to manage the city’s water. A winning team proposed faucet aerators for low-income families. Dr. Michael E. Webber, author of “Power Trip: The Story of Energy,” explains why Texas students should learn about energy and water. If your education initiative runs events and competitions, this is the kind of coverage we produce, in short and full-length versions.
