City of San Antonio Parks & Recreation Event

Día del Árbol

Día del Árbol is the city’s Texas Arbor Day celebration, held by City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation, with vendors, activities and free trees for residents. We shot this two-minute event video on a Saturday and delivered it Monday morning.

Experts were on hand to teach tree care: plant it properly, then water it at least once a week for at least its first three years so it can get established. The giveaways help people who might not be able to afford a tree, or wouldn’t otherwise think about one, put trees in their yards.

Then the fun part: favorite trees. One person’s favorite tree memory from growing up is the catalpa in front of their grandparents’ yard. Another loves the desert willow, which flowers all summer on little water. Someone else picks the arabica coffee tree, “because coffee is what is keeping me going.” The video closes on shade, which cuts summer cooling bills and lets kids play outside all year.
