Dog Foster of the Year: Peggy Gonzalez

Peggy Gonzalez has always been an animal person. One day she toured the 151 building, San Antonio Animal Care Services’ main campus on State Highway 151, and saw the puppy room, “and that was it.” This award video for San Antonio Pets Alive! (SAPA) honors her as the rescue’s Dog Foster of the Year.

She started checking the euthanasia list, the adoption lists and the foster needs lists, and got her first foster, Mr. Max. He was also her first “foster fail.” The most rewarding part for her is finding “that perfect forever home” for moms or pups. Sorting through applications can take a little work, until a gut feeling says, “this is it.”

Once, an adopting family couldn’t take their pup right away because they were going on vacation, so after the pup’s surgery, Peggy kept her for a while. The family’s kids, ages five and seven, wrote her thank-you notes from their trip, and the family kept sending pictures as the pup grew up.

SAPA has “people, programs to help you,” she tells anyone thinking about fostering. Fostering has shown her that “one person can make a difference in the lives of so many animals.” Footage from this shoot also opens our own studio promo.
