IT Apprenticeship Programs

NPower gives young adults and veterans free tech training and career launch support. This program video explains how it prepares students for IT apprenticeships, told through interviews with NPower staff, partners and an alum.

Students take Tech Fundamentals, an intensive 20-week course built to line up with Department of Labor apprenticeship curriculum, along with professional development and connections to industry professionals through mentorship or mock interviews. NPower works with employers that intend to hire its graduates.

Speakers explain why apprenticeships are “a win-win situation.” Apprentices get paid while they learn, and through grants, many employers can offer the training free. Employers close skills gaps and spend less on recruiting.

The video ends with an alum who quit a job to enroll and did odd jobs to get by while studying, with kids to take care of. The alum’s advice: “Life can be hard, but the outcome will be great if you just stick with it.” It’s one of 18 videos we produced for NPower.
