Student, parent and educator stories

Carlos Javier, pixelreflex MEDIA’s chief creative officer, produced these 10 videos under contract with Edgewood ISD, a San Antonio school district. He was solely responsible for creating and delivering them. Most are student, parent and educator profiles in which people explain, in their own words, why they choose Edgewood. Several of them are Leaders of the P.A.C., an honor the district gives.

Adriana Mata, a first-grade educator in the Gardendale Early Learning Program, always wanted to work for Edgewood because of its civil rights background. Her profile looks back at the district’s 1968 student walkout. Patricia Valdez, a special education specialist, explains what her team does and calls it the best job she’s ever had. Parent volunteer Dora Maldonado, a Kennedy High School graduate, also substitutes and coaches, and says involved adults help kids function better.

The student profiles include The Troubadour, about a Memorial High School trumpet player, and Viva America!, a fifth grader’s profile told in Spanish. Leadership Pipelines, for the Office of School Leadership, has three Roosevelt Dual Language Academy educators describe the pipeline from the inside. An event video covers the annual Memorial Day ceremony at the EISD Wall of Honor at Veterans Stadium, held with Compadres for Scholarships. Superintendent Dr. Eduardo Hernández says the videos “resonated deeply with our community, ensuring that all voices were valued in the conversation.”
