Edgewood ISD Student profile

Viva America!

When Viva America! was made, Angie Montoya was a fifth grader at Roosevelt Dual Language Academy in Edgewood ISD. She’d been in Edgewood since kindergarten, and this short student profile for the district is in Spanish.

A typical day for her means talking with her friends, reading, recess, lunch and then a little more work. Her biggest challenge that year, she says, was the Fiesta contest, and she set out to give it her best effort. At first she struggled to draw certain things, “pero no me rendí” (but I didn’t give up), and in the end, “todo salió bien” (it all worked out). “Me siento orgullosa de mí misma porque es mi primera vez como líder” (I’m proud of myself because it’s my first time as a leader), she says of being a Leader of the P.A.C.

She was a Texas Cavaliers River Parade Art Contest finalist and received a $3,000 check for her school’s art program. She wants people to know that Edgewood takes its students’ education very seriously, and she chose it because “es como ser parte de una comunidad muy unida” (it’s like being part of a very close-knit community).

Carlos Javier, pixelreflex MEDIA’s chief creative officer, produced this video under contract with Edgewood ISD and was solely responsible for creating and delivering it.
